Berlikum.

Finally Berlikum. 13th July,2005.

To day, we finally arrived to our destination, Berlikum.

Map.

I must say there is certainly something to say about the scenary, between villages, (dorpen).

Nature is certainly to be found in abundance.

We first walked on the side of the road, along all the green houses,(kassen).

Green houses, Hot houses, Kassen.

we then came to a sign saying cycle track.(fietspad), where we came across a big boulder, (rock), with an inscription on it "Ruilverkaveling",with a date written upon it, which I must sadly tell you all that Icannot remember, as I was too busy saying "Ruilverkaveling",over and over in my head, to remember it, though it was beside a lovely picnicspot, (with a picnic table and benches, by the side of the cycle track).

What I found beautiful, was that the path was made from shells, running along a ditch, (sloot), with tree's lining the right side of the cycle track, and on our left, the ditch, with reeds growing out along the side of the banks. It was typical fries weather, stormy strong winds, little spotsof rain, (thankgoodness), and then sunny, which made the walkvery pleasant. We then came to a lovely wooden bridge, thus entered Berlikum.

Berlikum Municipality board sign.
.

What I found interesting is the boards that are put up by the municipality telling you which place you have arrived in for example,'Berlikum' (Dutch), then underneath in (Fries), 'Berltsum'.

We took more pictures, came to a Hervormde Kerk. dating 1722 orthere abouts, from there preceded back to the car.

Berlikum Church bell tower.

We met a very friendly women, in Berlikum, who owned a shop, ofinteresting things, which we will go back next week to see, as it was Monday, and it was closed, so guess what, next week we will go on Tuesday.

Till then readers. (Tot kijk),
