Deinum. October 2006.

It was a lovely sunny Autumn day when we went to Deinum. We parked the car and walked to the church.

Deinum1Lane to the church.

It was beautiful, the lane leading to the church was surounded onboth sides with a hedgerow and trees and the beautiful Autumn sunlightfiltering through.

Walking up the lane towards the church you saw the top of the steeple of the church through the trees, and on top of the tower was a onion shaped dome, (which I think is the only one in Friesland).

Deinum falls under the municipality of  Menaldumadeel
(Fries: Menameradiel).

In the year 14th October 1863, the rail line Harlingen-Leeuwarden, was the first stretch of line layed down by then the so called Noordernet under Staatspoorwegen in North Netherlands, (Noord-Nederlands).

An Important reason for the laying down of the line was the boatservice from Harlingen-Amsterdam which sailed only in the summer.

The line from Leeuwarden-Harlingen  was first opened officialy on the  27th of October 1863, with three trains, and began the official service between Leeuwarden-Harlingen.

On our way walking through Deinum we came across a farmhouse on a cycle-walk route, on the corner facing the Harixsma canal, (Harixsma-Kanaal), it was beautiful (to me that is), it had a picnic table benches in the garden facing the canal (imagine in the summer watching all the boats going past), and it had a most beautiful view.

We continued on our walk and came across a wooden bench built in a shelter with a fishing net with shells on hanging up behind the bench, which was unusual to see and of course from this bench one could watch from their back garden the boats going past, how wonderful and relaxing.

Walking out of Deinum towards Blessum we came across these buck and horse who was feeling very sorry for himself/herself and had this horse blanket on, we were wondering if it had a cold or something? He or she was really looking very sorry for itself.

Then of course this little house, (it looked like a little dolls house to me, it attracted me very much.

Also this house with ivy growing all over it, it was empty and I love looking at empty houses, I had a peep inside and it was absolutely wonderful, it was very old inside, the original wooden floors, old fashioned fireplace and the same old kitchen (very small ) were still in, how lovely.

Walking towards Blessum we came across the rail line from Leeuwarden to Harlingen and there was  a gate we crossed over the rail line and saw that there was a walk and cycly route through the farmers land, we then decided that the following week we would park the car there and walk through to Blessum.

TrainTrain from Harlingen to Leeuwarden.

As we crossed the rail line the train from Harlingen to leeuwarden was coming down the track and I took this photogragh, the engine driver was very friendly and waved to us as he passed.

With our minds made up we walked back to the car in Deinum and were looking forward to the following wee to Blessum.
