On the 9th September 2006 I went to theopening of Marians Tea Cafe, with my two daughters, and my otherdaughter, her boyfriend, and my son and his girlfriend inOosterend-Easterein.
We first caught the bus from Leeuwarden to another village outside Oosterend called Wommels.
We then caught a taxi from Wommels to Oosterend, though one can walk to Oosterend from Wommels, it is only about 2 kilometers away and is a very nice walk I believe, but we had to get to Marians on time, nexttime I will deffinitely walk there from Wommels.
My first impression of Oosterend-Easterein was what a lovely littlevillage, little it is but what a lot to see, it is really lovely, theatmosphere, the people are so friendly, and the layout of the villageitself is wonderful. We arrived at Marians tea shop called 'The Thee Cafe' (The Tea Cafe), web-site : www.theecafe.nlwhich I believe is also situated with her moms shop, A & M Lifestyle, Wynserdyk 37, Easterein.
There were people sitting outside enjoying the weather having teaand eats outside on the terrace as well as inside, it was mostcertainly very cosy.
When we stepped outside the taxi, Marian came and welcomed us, andintroduced us to her wonderful family and boyfriend. We then steppedinside to view the tea shop and what a surprise met our eyes, it waslike stepping back in time to a most wonderful old fashioned shop, likea dickens shop, from the dickens fairy tales.
Marian had a huge dresser in the tea shop with all sorts of bric abrac, vases, plates, teapots on and beautiful photo's on the wall, andtwo huge tables with chairs around where one can have coffee or tea ona cold winters days when you cannot sit outside on the terrace. My first thought was how cosy it would be in there in the winter with that hot cup of tea cradling in your hands, and those most delicious muffins, scones, caramel squares etc that she had made for the tea not to forget Marian's quiche, which is ladies and gentelmen absolutely delicious and scrumptious (as all her cakes), but Marian I must say this I have never tasted a quiche that can beat yours yet, I cannot get mine to taste like yours, it is absolutely delicious.
We then walked through the tea area back into the main part of the shop and here is where Marian's
mother had her english wares, from towels, patchwork quilts, tea services, chandeliers furniture,
it was lovely, and what was more it was also the village post office, it reminded me of a shop in a
village in England in a village called Woodbridge in Suffolk, how I enjoyed myself in the shop.
Well my daughters and I, my son and his girlfriend had a good oldlook around then after the most wonderful tea and eats I went to lookaround the village and look at the sights.
Oosterend-Easterein,lies in a triangle of villages, Bolsward, Sneek, Franeker. The village became
known because of the Church, (Martini Kerk), most of this church is built in the middle Century,
and has the oldest sacristie in Friesland. The surrounding waters tell you a bit about the times,
when people still brought their goods in ships and boats across.
Oosterend used to fall under the Municapility (Gemeente),Herenaarderadeel, but in 1984 was later changed to the Municpality(Gemeente), Littenseradeel and was officially known as Easterein(Fries), in 1991.
There was another church right next to Marians, tea cafe, I do notknow what the name is of the church, and saw a lot of lovely old housesand the ditch (sloot), running in front of the Martinikerk.
This village is so traquil and yet so pretty, a lot to see andenjoy, especially if you like walking like I do and want to see things.
Well Marian and Afke success with your businesses and I thank youboth for a most wonderful day and your generous hospitality. If youwould like more information about Marians Tea Cafe,
